Beyoncé Commits $1 Million to Colombia Earthquake Relief
Beyoncé is directing capital straight to emergency response efforts. Through Parkwood Entertainment, the superstar announced a $1 million commitment on Tuesday (Aug. 25) to assist ongoing disaster relief in Colombia following a magnitude-7.4 earthquake on Aug. 10. The tremor struck near San José del Palmar in Chocó, causing extensive damage to homes, destroying critical transit infrastructure, and severing basic food supply chains across the region. According to the announcement, reported by Billboard, the $1 million pledge is strictly earmarked for immediate food distribution and emergency housing supplies for the hardest-hit communities. Celebrity philanthropy often bogs itself down in vague long-term initiatives with hazy timelines, but direct aid is the only metric that matters when supply chains collapse overnight. Beyoncé's pledge aligns with aid commitments from Colombian peers, including Shakira ($1.25 million for rebuilding schools) and Karol G ($1.2 million through her foundation). Parkwood and Beyoncé encourage those looking to contribute to donate directly to Food For The Poor and World Central Kitchen as both organizations continue operations on the ground.
