Deezer Introduces Search Toggle to Block AI Music as Daily Uploads Near 90,000
Deezer is giving subscribers a button to wipe synthetic music off their screens entirely. As Music Business Worldwide reports, the platform announced an on/off toggle that lets listeners exclude fully AI-generated songs, albums, and related artists from search results, scheduled to roll out globally before the end of 2026. The feature addresses a staggering volume problem. Deezer now receives nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks every single day, representing more than 50% of all incoming uploads on peak days. Yet actual human demand is nonexistent. Those tracks generate between 1% and 3% of total streams on the service. Deezer noted that up to 85% of the plays generated by these tracks in 2025 were fraudulent. It is an industrial grift designed to game streaming's pro-rata royalty pool, the exact scheme that landed Michael Smith an 18-month federal prison sentence on October 6. Deezer already strips synthetic audio from algorithmic feeds and editorial playlists, but handing subscribers a manual kill switch is a rare move of executive sanity. Major competitors look negligent by comparison for letting the sludge sit unchecked. An Ipsos survey cited by Deezer found that 45% of streaming users actively want fully AI tracks scrubbed from their experience. The search filter will roll out to all Deezer accounts worldwide before the end of 2026.
