Erica Campbell’s Label Sues Distributor SRG/ILS Over Unpaid Gospel Royalties

Indie imprint My Block Inc. is taking its distribution partner to court. The label, founded by producer Warryn Campbell, filed a lawsuit on Thursday against SRG/ILS Group, alleging the distributor failed to provide a single royalty statement for Erica Campbell’s 2023 gospel album, *I Love You*. Billboard first reported the filing, which outlines a distribution partnership spanning 2021 through 2024. During that window, Campbell notched a commercial win when the single "Feel Alright (Blessed)" climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s gospel chart. Yet according to My Block, SRG never accounted for the revenue generated by that momentum. This is not an isolated complaint against SRG/ILS, which operates in partnership with Universal Music Group’s Virgin Music. R&B veteran Kenny Lattimore recently brought similar legal claims against the distributor over missing royalty statements from his latest project. When an indie imprint links with a distributor backed by major-label infrastructure, basic bookkeeping is the baseline expectation. Withholding every single statement while collecting off a chart-topping record is inexcusable negligence. Independent labels run on predictable cash flow, and shutting off royalty accounting suffocates the ecosystem. Legal proceedings will determine the damages as the lawsuit moves forward.
