Fat Joe’s ongoing defamation lawsuit against his former associate Terrance Dixon and attorney Tyrone Blackburn hit another procedural snag, drawing a sharp rebuke from the bench. According to Complex, Magistrate Judge Jennifer E. Willis reprimanded Blackburn after he missed an Aug. 26 deadline to refile his motion to withdraw as Dixon’s counsel. Blackburn asked for a one-week extension on the day the filing was due, blaming an "inaccessible hard drive" for the delay. Judge Willis granted the extension but made her frustration clear in her written response, noting that the Aug. 26 date had already been an extension of a prior cutoff. "The Court is appalled at the lack of professionalism and diligence displayed," Willis wrote. "A technological issue is not a valid excuse for missing yet another court deadline, and Blackburn should have requested an extension as soon as he was aware of the hard drive problem." Joe filed the federal defamation suit in 2025 over what his legal team characterized as "wholly fabricated" and "scandalous" claims by Dixon, whom Joe described as a disgruntled former hype man attempting extortion. Blackburn moved to withdraw from representing Dixon in July, though both men remain named defendants in the action. Blaming an inaccessible hard drive on deadline day is amateur execution in federal court, especially for an attorney who previously faced accusations of using fake AI-generated legal citations in the same case. Judge Willis gave him the extra week, but judicial patience is clearly spent.
