London has a long, beautiful history of mutating Caribbean and African rhythms into something strictly its own. At 21, East London’s FromJerome has coined a sound he calls "Afro-Hall," a Dancehall-meets-Afrobeats R&B mutation that taps directly into his Grenadian-Nigerian heritage. You can't fake that kind of rhythm. It’s in the blood. On his debut EP, Before The Sun Sets, he lays out six tracks of raw, unfiltered growing pains. He teamed up with heavy-hitters like Zino Milly and Elevated—producers who usually shape the UK rap scene—but here, they strip the beats down to their melodic bones. Take a track like "You Deserve." The percussion drags just a fraction of a second behind the beat. His vocal stacks swell on the hook, hovering over a thick, rounded bassline that dictates the entire tempo. He sings about the messy realities of young love, but the delivery stays firmly in the pocket. There is no over-singing. He just rides the groove. Tracks like "Girls Trip" and "Line It Up" showcase a pen that understands the nuances of modern romance without sounding incredibly jaded. But my personal obsession all week has been "Brown Liquor Baby." It’s a f***ing groove. The drums hit with a sharp snap while the melodies sway underneath his tenor. I’ll call it right now: FromJerome is going to be a massive problem for the R&B ecosystem over the next few years. The curators are already waking up to the wave. Apple Music just threw the track onto their UK R&B playlist alongside SoundCloud Jamz, and Audiomack has it climbing their Discover R&B tier. The data is simply catching up to the talent.
