Samara Cyn was a straight-A student sitting in a cubicle at Intel in 2021, smoking lavender cigarettes and drinking Angry Orchards because corporate America made her miserable. Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, she grew up as an Army brat who bounced from Georgia to Texas to Hawaii. That constant motion built a nomadic pen. When the cubicle walls closed in, she fully committed to the music. The payoff is her 2026 EP Detour. A lot of emerging acts cite Lauryn Hill or Erykah Badu in their press kits. Usually, that neo-soul label is just a convenient shield to hide weak bars. Cyn actually writes like she has something to lose. Listen to "BUSHWICK" featuring Ovrkast. She finds the hidden pockets between the drum breaks, bending her syllables to lock into the groove. She reportedly takes a knee in the vocal booth when a verse won't come out right. DJ Premier recently tapped her for an MLS campaign, producing a cover of A Tribe Called Quest’s "Can I Kick It?" for her. Preemo does not hand out Tribe beats to tourists. He heard the same fluid, narrative-driven wordplay that’s currently getting her added to college and indie radio from Rochester’s WRUR to Omaha’s KOPW-FM. She takes the music overseas late this summer, hitting London's All Points East festival before playing rooms in Paris and Cologne with La Reezy.
