New Orleans' La Reezy Studied Kendrick Lamar’s 'Section.80' to Build His Debut Album
New Orleans has a new lyrical mutant on the loose. La Reezy already secured the holy trinity of rap co-signs—Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Tyler, the Creator—before he could even legally buy a drink. Now, with his debut album *Skiddle Bandana* out in the world, the rising artist is preparing to take his sharp pen on the road for a multi-city tour alongside Chance the Rapper. In a recent interview with Billboard, Reezy revealed that Kendrick’s classic *Section.80* was the sole blueprint he studied to map out his debut. You can hear that heavy focus on localized storytelling across the record. On the title track, he links up with No Limit veteran Mac Phipps. Meanwhile, "Melanate It" serves up a heavy dose of Black pride, and "Family Bizzy" pays direct homage to the relatives who raised him in Louisiana. Even with the heavy industry backing, the rapper born Khayree is keeping his feet on the pavement. He told Billboard he still spends his days thrifting and riding his bike to keep imposter syndrome from creeping in. The kid is just trying to stay human while his star rises. Hear it below.
