In Rotation: Mello Buckzz

By Ellis·July 13, 2026·1 min read

Mello Buckzz raps like the South Side of Chicago is watching her every move. There is zero hesitation in her delivery. On her latest project, PRETTY OPP, she steps to the mic with a chip on her shoulder and a razor-sharp cadence that cuts straight through the heavy basslines. Chicago's street rap lineage is legendary, but let's be entirely honest—the women are the ones keeping the city's drill and street rap scenes genuinely dangerous right now. Mello is leading that exact charge. Last year, she dropped the Hollyhood project, trading aggressive bars with G Herbo on “hmm…BD” and linking with Monaleo for “Move Pt. 2.” She proved she could stand in the room with established heavyweights and match their energy. Now, with PRETTY OPP out via No More Heroes and Santa Anna, she is cementing her own distinct foundation. The current obsession is the new visual for "White Tee" featuring Jorjiana. Mello attacks the beat immediately. She skips the long melodic intros. Her voice is punchy, locking perfectly into the snare drums and driving the track's momentum forward. When you listen to a track like "I Can't Help It," producers Go Grizzly and Loud Pack hand her a menacing, bounce-heavy instrumental, and she absolutely walks all over it. She raps like she actually gives a sh*t about the pure mechanics of flowing over a beat. The data simply confirms what the city already knew. Apple Music just planted the PRETTY OPP standout "Think Big" at #3 on The New Midwest and added it to The Plug. Terrestrial radio programmers from D.C.’s Hip Hop Nation to Columbus’s Power 107.5 are placing her in heavy rotation. Even the older cuts are still moving, with her Chuckyy collaboration "Out the Roof" recently hitting Audiomack's Discover Hip-Hop charts. She has the hustle and the catalog to back up the hype.
