In Rotation: Cristale

South London has been exporting elite spitters for a minute, but it takes a different breed of MC to body a DJ Drama record and a Skrillex festival anthem in the same breath. That’s the exact run Cristale is on right now. I’ve had her latest joint, "Never Leave Me," rattling around my skull all week. Cristale first popped up around 2020, cutting her teeth in the UK drill and grime circuits. A lot of artists in that pocket get trapped relying on tempo and shock value to mask a lack of penmanship. Cristale actually writes. When I hear her, I hear the lineage of grime's golden era mixed with the heavy knock of modern drill. On "Never Leave Me," she cuts right through the production with incisive bars. The 808s punch, but her vocal pocket is what keeps you hooked. She dictates the rhythm. She’s gearing up to drop her debut mixtape, Clear Intentions, on November 6th via Believe Records. She even has a hand in producing the tracks. According to her, the tape is about finding your "reason why" in life and moving with intentionality. That maturity bleeds into the music. It’s a rare thing to find a young artist balancing that level of introspection with pure, unfiltered rap ability. The rest of the world is catching on. She recently linked up with DJ Drama and Kai Ca$h on "Fine Art," bridging Atlanta and the UK. Then she flipped the script entirely, jumping on the heavy bass anthem "Smoke" with Skrillex, ISOxo, and TeeZandos, which just cracked Spotify’s New Music Friday at number 25. Meanwhile, her track "Roadents" is climbing Apple Music’s The New London playlist, and stateside radio from DC to Chattanooga is starting to pay attention. All the playlist adds and social buzz just confirm what the music already tells you. She has the vision, and she has the execution. Hit play below.
