In Rotation: Planta Industrial

Saso and akathedarknight are making the kind of distorted, bilingual noise that only two Dominicans raised in the Bronx could conjure. Operating under the name Planta Industrial, the duo is currently tearing up the floorboards of the Latin underground. They pull heavily from post-punk, dark wave, and Afro-Dominican rhythms, filtering that history through sharp Spanglish rap. The output is abrasive and undeniably New York. You can hear the grit in their recent video release, "Chupacabra." The drums thrash with reckless abandon. A blown-out bassline anchors the track while the vocals pivot from a menacing hip-hop cadence to full-throated punk wails. I’ll be completely honest here—most acts attempting to fuse rap and punk end up sounding like a terrible mall soundtrack from 2004. Planta Industrial avoids that trap entirely because their cultural DNA is authentic. As someone who spends hours tracking down old soul samples, I don't always pivot to post-punk, but real energy translates across any genre. On the track "Barra Payan," they lay down heavy, atmospheric production that feels exactly like walking under the elevated 4 train at two in the morning. The distortion is cranked. Yet, beneath the abrasive exterior, a deep Afro-Caribbean groove dictates the rhythm and keeps your neck snapping. It takes serious skill to make music this chaotic feel this rhythmic. The industry is finally catching up to their wave. "Barra Payan" recently hit Spotify’s Fresh Finds Latin playlist, climbing to the 45 spot. Real tastemaker radio is taking notice too, with stations like NYC's own WFUV, Tampa's WMNF, and Radio Milwaukee adding them into regular rotation. They recently took their live show to the Dominican Republic for the Isle of Light festival, bringing their Bronx energy back to the motherland, and they are already booked to crash Mexico City's massive Vive Latino festival in 2026. They are building a movement that honors their roots while pushing heavy boundaries. Check it out below.
